CBSSports.com sources: Butch Davis fired at North Carolina, players have been told of decision.
This rumor is everywhere and ESPN Radio has been reporting it as well.

A UNC official would not confirm or deny the rumor that Butch Davis has been fired as UNC's head football coach, but did provide the following statement:
"The chancellor met with the Board of Trustees today to discuss the future of the football program."
The Board of Trustees had a 1pm meeting today in Chapel Hill.
Looks like Sam Pittman will be the new Head Coach.

It was either Monday morning or yesterday on the XM college sports station that some guy during a news break was reading a statement from Davis saying he was sorry for things that happened and he accepted blame for them and that he should have been more deligent and put more of a focus on academics (paraphrasing). I thought that was kind of strange then. Makes more sense now.
